Bonjour, mes amies!

Welcome to Charteris Art Tours— fun educational trips that immerse you in the City of Light.

You’ll live in Central Paris in a lovely apartment where you can relax and feel at home. You can cook too if you wish.

Mornings we’ll head to museums such as the Louvre, Musee’d’Orsay, Musée Marmottan Monet, Musée Rodin, Musée Picasso, Pompidou Center and Quai Branly.

One day, we’ll leave Paris for Giverny—Monet’s charming country home where he painted his water lily series.

Afternoons are personalized—we’ll devise a plan for you to enjoy Paris at your leisure—shopping, walking, drawing, photographing or visiting a spa or Versailles.

Or: maybe you simply wish to people watch—one of Paris’s most popular pastimes and a personal favorite. We’ll locate an ideal spot for you to have coffee or glass of wine and enjoy the sights.

À bientôt!

Honoring the feminine

Bonsoir, mes amies!

Paris is a city where your gaze is returned: people actually look at you and return your gaze. It’s a relational city that opens the heart. The French are considered a feeling people.

Men cry on television when they lose the tour de France.

Zizou, aka Zinedine Zidane lost his cool during a World Cup Final. He was still loved and respected—of course: he acted from a place of irrepressible feeling.

Posters in the metro stations express warmth and affection—family, friendships, and lovers.

People hold hands and kiss each other in public—deep and long.

Paris promises surprisingly intimate moments. I notice this because in certain western cultures expression of feelings is disallowed, suppressed.

The French openhearted expression of feeling, reflected in empathic portrayals of women in paint or stone and many other media convey a sense that Paris honors the feminine.

Women move in a world of relationships. Our value system is based on relationships—we have a relational way of functioning in the world.

Paris is said to be an ancient site of Isis, Egyptian goddess of love, similar to her sister goddesses Aphrodite, Venus, and Oshun. Love is relationship.

How Art Tours began

Bonjour!

The idea for Art Tours began at a women’s retreat.

We were tasked to search for an object—a symbol. Then we were to re-present the object and share its meaning.

I left the manicured grounds of the upscale hotel to walk around some rundown suburban streets. Shards of brilliant blue glass in the emerald grass stopped me in my tracks.

Yes! I looked for something to carry these sharp jagged fragments and saw perfectly heart-shaped yellow leaves. I used some to scoop up the broken glass.

Unsure about meaning, I dropped my finds on a table for all to see, blurting, “These shards are my broken selves and the perfect heart-shaped leaves represent joy that heals. I am going to do urban tours in Europe for women—tours that transform.”

We’re headed to Paris!

Allons-y!
